Planning

I am bad at planning. If you asked me to plan an event for you, I’d get it done; but not before pulling an all nighter the night before, turning a few hairs gray and drowning in a vat of coffee. Maybe that’s not 100% true, but planning ahead is definitely not my forte. I can’t really say what it is either, it’s not that I’m adverse to being prepared but it’s not in my DNA.

BUT, it is something I am desperately trying to change and not just for the new year. In relation to cooking, I’ve had pseudo dinner parties at my apartment, but by the time guests arrive I’m still scrambling in the kitchen to make sure that everything turns out okay and cursing under my breath at my lack of planning and preparation. Most of this stress comes from not reading the recipe, I know right? Again, no more!

So I’ve locked myself into cooking with a friend of mine and will once again be producing Momofuku’s pork buns (!!!). I made a batch way back in October 2010:

I think that they turned out pretty well considering I made them in somewhat of a rush, freaking out about whether the pork would finish roasting and if I had enough to serve to everyone at our pumpkin carving party. (Ended up pork left over to make buns for 2-3 more days + put large slabs of pork belly into my ramen) I clearly underestimated the preparation time required, and generally give myself just enough time to get things done without much left over. But since I will be doing this with a friend who I’m eager to cook with, I’ll have to make sure that this is goes more smoothly than normal.

I’ll be blogging about my prep process next week as I get ready to make these buns again next week :)

Until next time..<3

Seriously

Ok, officially horrible at blogging. Something that I don’t plan on doing long term anyway. Sucking at things is not a valid plan in life, and even when it comes to small things I want to do what I said I would do. So here’s what’s been coming up as of late:

  • Re-organizing / cleaning kitchen
  • Lucky Peach Vol. 2!
  • Replacing kitchenware :(
  • Knife sharpening
  • Vlogs! Or how-to’s or just….meh….

Believe it when you see it though. I mean it.

Anyway, word to the wise really quick about Lucky Peach. Most of you (the one person who reads) know that I definitely have a super man crush on David Chang, and for anything that Momofuku does. With the limited time that I’ve had to sit down with it and read there’s some really awesome articles and great sounding recipes to try out stuffed inside. One thing that really caught my attention is the article about fish and how they are slaughtered for delivery to the fish market. Had to stop for a second and consider the harsh reality of how fish arrives on my plate; and then happily finish consuming it. :)

See you soon, <3
